Sykes - Thomas Richard Sykes was born March 8, 1870, and died Saturday night, June 9, only a few minutes after the truck in which he was returning from the camp meeting collided with another. Brother Sykes attended the meetings in the tent at Quitman last summer, and helped with the work all he could. At the close of the meeting he was baptized and united with the Quitman church. From that time on he gave himself untiring to the work of the church, even beyond his strength, to see the cause of truth built up there in his town. He was deacon of the church and Sabbath school superintendent, and all regarded him as a pillar in the church. On the last Sabbath of camp meeting he seemed very happy in the Lord, and bore testimony to his faith and courage. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, who has for many years been a faithful Seventh-day Adventist, six sons, two daughters, and other relatives and friends. Interment was in Pleasant Grove cemetery. Words of comfort were spoken by the writer. L.A. Butterfield.
