Martha Cook, Raymond Overby

Martha Lee Cook was the daughter of Lee Andrew Cook and Rebecca M. McCormick. She was born on 11 January 1932 in Vossburg, Mississippi and died on 23 December 2010 in Pascagoula, Mississippi. She is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery in Clarke County, Mississippi.

QUITMAN - Services for Martha Lee Cook Overby will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Henry officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery with Wright's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
     Mrs. Overby, 78, of Lucedale, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula.
     She was born on Jan. 11, 1932, in Vossburg, Miss. Her parents were Lee Andrew Cook and Rebecca McCormick Cook. Martha graduated from Heidelberg High School and St. Joseph Catholic Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, Meridian, Jackson County Hospital (Singing River Hospital), Ingalls Shipbuilding, and retired from the Jackson County Health Department in Pascagoula in 1990. Martha lived in Jackson County for 31 years and had resided in George County since 1991. She was an active member of Southside Baptist Church.
     Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann Guin and husband, Steve, of Lucedale; three grandchildren, James E. Guin and wife, Soon, of Rosewell, Ga., Stephen T. Guin and Georgia Childree and husband, Josh, of Lucedale; five great-grandchildren, Jed and June Guin of Rosewell, Ga., and Randi Guin, Katelyn Stewart and Madysen Childree, of Lucedale; three brothers, Preston Cook and wife, Barbara, Herschel Cook and wife, Frances, of Shubuta, and Milton Cook of Vossburg; sister, Hilda Morris and husband, Lonnie, of Vancleave; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
     She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Raymond Lee Overby; son, Jimmy Ray Overby; and parents, Lee and Rebecca Cook.
     Pallbearers will be Stephen T. Guin, Joey Robins, Archie Morris, Andy Cook, Jamie Cook and Michael Cook.
     Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m., at the funeral home in Quitman.

Raymond Lee Overby was the son of Early Fletcher Overby and Hattie Bell Brannon. He was born on 1 March 1925 in Enterprise, Mississippi and died on 16 February 2008 in Mobile, Alabama. He is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery in Clarke County, Mississippi.

Carpenter - Services for Raymond Lee Overby will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Miller officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
     Overby, 82, of Lucedale, died Feb. 16, 2008 at Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, Al.
     He was a union carpenter for 50 years. He did construction work and retired from Fletcher Construction Company in 1987. He grew up in Enterprise in the Pine Hill Community. After working many years in Meridian, he moved to Pascagoula. After residing in Jackson County for 32 years he moved to Lucedale in 1991. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
     Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Martha Overby, of Lucedale; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Steve Guin, of Lucedale; grandchildren, James E. Guin (Soon), of Rosewell, GA., Stephen T. Guin (Diane), Georgia Children (Joshua), both of Lucedale; great-grandchildren, Randi Guin, Katelynn Stewart and Madysen Childree, all of Lucedale, Jed and June Guin, of Rosewell, GA; brothers, Ernest Overy, Enterprise, Dean (Vashti) Overby, of Meridian, Leonard (Sue) Overby, of Moss Point, Roy Overby, of Pascagoula, and Kenny (Betty), of Valley, AL; sisters, Ruth Siler, of Pascagoula, Christine Robinson, Wilmer, AL., Sybil (Ernie) Ivaldi, El Dorado Hills, CA. and many nieces and nephews.
     Mr. Overby was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Ray Overby, father and mother Early F. and Hattie Bell Overby, brothers, Ross, Jimmy and Jessie Overby.
     Visitation will be at Wright's Funeral Home today after 5 p.m.

They had the following children:

Mary Ann Overby was born on 18 February 1954. She married Steve Guin. She birthed three children: James, Stephen, and Georgia.

Jimmy Ray Overby was born on 8 March 1959 and died on 4 November 1978. He is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery in Clarke County, Mississippi.
