James Sykes, Erma Simmons

James Clayton Sykes was the son of Lloyd Clatyon Sykes and Ruth Voss. He was born on 24 July 1922 in Clarke County, Mississippi and died on 24 October 2006 in Shubuta, Mississippi. He is buried in Quitman Cemetery in Clarke County, Mississippi.

QUITMAN - Services for James Clayton Sykes will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Dennis Coats and Dennis Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
     Mr. Sykes, 84, of Quitman, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at Golden Meadows in Shubuta. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy. He was a 1949 graduate of Mississippi State University. He was avid MSU fan and supporter. He was a prominent building contractor and businessman and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
     Survivors include his son, Ron Sykes and his wife, Sylvia, of Quitman; a daughter, Sue Ann Robinson of New Braunfels, Texas; a brother, Ralph Sykes of Quitman; grandchildren, James Sykes and his wife, Pam, Andrea White and her husband, Michael, Rebecca Hill and her husband, Craig, Michael Robinson and his wife, Cristi; great-grandchildren, Taylor Sykes, Bailey Sykes, Cayla White, Daniel White and Molly Hill.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Sykes; children, Jenny Lynn Sykes, Betty Sykes, Robert Sykes and Richard Sykes; his sister, Hazel Grayson and parents, Lloyd and Ruth Sykes.
     Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or a charity of choice.
     Pallbearers will be Jamie Sykes, Michael Robinson, Craig Hill, Taylor Sykes, Michael White and Tony Smith.
     Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Erma Evelyn Simmons was the daughter of Robert Kelly Simmons and Vera Madeline Carter. She was born on 6 May 1923 in Meridian, Mississippi and died on 13 September 2002 in Quitman, Mississippi. She is buried in Quitman Cemetery in Clarke County, Mississippi.

     Mrs. Sykes, 79, of Quitman, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, in her home.
     Survivors include her husband, James C. Sykes; a son Ron Sykes and his wife, Sylvia, all of Quitman; a daughter, Sue Ann Robinson of San Antonio; three brothers, John Simmons of Meridian, Armond Simmons of Pell City, Ala., and Dr. Marion Lee Simmons of Bridgewater, Va.; two sisters, Frances Sparacino of Meridian and Margaret Jackson of Hattiesburg; four grandchildren, Rebecca Hill and her husband, Craig, of New Braunfels, Texas, Michael Robinson of Key West, Fla., Jamie Sykes and his wife, Pam, of Murphreesboro, Tenn., and Andrea White and her husband, Michael, of Columbus and four great-grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by four children, Jenny Lynn Sykes, Betty Simmons Sykes, Richard Sykes and Robert Sykes.

They had the following children:

James Ronald Sykes was born on 21 March 1944 in Meridian, Mississippi. He married Sylvia Ann McLendon. He fathered two children: James and Andrea.

Sue Ann Sykes was born on 9 July 1949. She married Dennis Ray Robinson. She birthed two children: Michael and Amy.

Betty Simmons Sykes was born on 13 April 1952 in Quitman, Mississippi and died on 14 April 1952 in Quitman, Mississippi. She is buried in Quitman Cemetery in Clarke County, Mississippi.

Virginia Lynn Sykes was born on 5 November 1958 in Quitman, Mississippi and died on 9 July 1976 in Clarke County, Mississippi. She is buried in Quitman Cemetery in Clarke County, Mississippi.

Robert Kelly Sykes was born on 4 January 1960 in Quitman, Mississippi and died on 4 January 1960 in Quitman, Mississippi. He is buried in Quitman Cemetery in Clarke County, Mississippi.

Richard Clayton Sykes was born on 4 January 1960 in Quitman, Mississippi and died on 4 January 1960 in Quitman, Mississippi. He is buried in Quitman Cemetery in Clarke County, Mississippi.
