Esther Roberta Perkins was born on 10 May 1927 in Elkton, Cecil, Maryland. She died on 7 June 2006 in Maryland.

Memorial service for Esther R. Perkins will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, 315 S. Main St., North East, MD. Private interment will be in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, 315 S. Main St., North East, MD 31901, or Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 2332, Elkton, MD 21922.
Ms. Perkins, 79, of North East, MD, formerly of Elkton, MD and Childs, MD, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006. Born in Elkton on May 10, 1927, she was the daughter of the late C. Roberts Perkins and Esther Crouch Terrell Perkins.
A literary agent, poet and author, she wrote "Backroading Through Cecil County, Maryland" and "Canal Town: Historic Chesapeake City, Maryland", both with artist Nancy Sawin, and "Things I Wish I'd Said". Ms. Perkins was a graduate of Elkton High School and attended West Chester Teachers College, West Chester, PA for two years. She had worked for 18 years as an accountant for the DuPont Co., Wilmington, DE, and 12 years as a records specialist for the University of Delaware, Newark, DE. Ms. Perkins had also been a partner in Holly Press in Hockessin, DE, and was currently a partner in Riverside Press, having recently re-issued "Backroading Through Cecil County, Maryland."
Ms. Perkins was a member of St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, North East, and a former member of Elkton United Methodist Church, Elkton, and Principio United Methodist Church, Perryville, MD, where she continued as a member of the Quilters Club. Memberships also included the Gleaners of Elkton United Methodist Church, Cecil County Arts Council Advisory Board, Authors Guild, National Writers' Club, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was listed in the "Who's Who of American Women" and "Who's Who in the World."
Esther was an only child, and in 1957 went to live with J. Frank Blake, Jr. and Lida Blake in Childs, MD. Mr Blake died in 1958 and "Aunt" Esther became a member of the Blake family, continuing to live with Lida Blake until Lida passed away in 1995. Esther then moved to Hance's Point, North East, MD.
She is survived by members of the Blake family, John H. Blake, III and wife, Dixie, and their sons, John H. Blake, IV and wife, Maria, and Christopher A. Blake, all of San Diego, CA, and Susan Blake Byrne and husband, Dr. John H. Byrne, Houston, TX, and their children, Dr. Kathryn Byrne Smeal and husband, Roy Smeal, Salt Lake City, UT, and Michael Byrne, Houston, TX. She is also survived by her dear friend, Betty Diggs and family, Hance's Point; and many friends.
