William Abdell "Abby" Parker, 78, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at University Hospital, Charlottesville.
Mr. Parker was a native and lifelong Peninsula resident. He was a graduate of Hampton High School. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Pacific and the Philippines, and served in the 730th Engineering Depot Co.
Mr. Parker retired from NNSB, Payroll Department, in 1985, with 45 years of service. After retirement, he was an avid traveler. He was a member of the St. Tammany Masonic Lodge, Hampton, and a member of Central United Methodist Church, Hampton.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edna Redifer Parker, and three sons, William Carlton Parker and his wife, Mary Margaret, of Bridgewater, Va., and Kevin Astor Parker and Terry Lynn Parker, both of Hampton; one sister, Ida Parker Jenkins of Newport News.
A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. John E. Conner. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association, 360 Southport Circle, St. 104, VA Beach 23452 or Central United Methodist Church, 225 Chapel St., Hampton, 23669.
Arrangements are in the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton.
