Mrs. John W. Smith

We number among our dead this week Mrs. John W. Smith of Bogalusa, La. Mrs. Smith was, before her marriage, Miss Mary McLendon, daughter of Mrs. D. R. McLendon, of Quitman. Deceased once lived here, and is remembered pleasantly by everybody and lovingly by her host of friends. October 16, 1921 she became the wife of John W. Smith. And until recently she enjoyed excellent health. But a few days before her death it was found that an operation was necessary. And after the operation her beautiful life hastened to its close. Her body was brought back here--her home. And on Saturday morning the funeral was held in the home of her mother. Rev. J. D. Ellis officiating, assisted by the Baptist Pastor, a large concourse of friends, relatives, sympathizers, attending. The body was laid to rest in our local cemetery, the following acting as pall bearers: Chess Weems, Thos. Dabbs, J. D. Fisher, Geo. W. Meadows, Carlos Norris, C. W. Robinson.
She leaves besides her husband, her mother, four sisters, Mrs. W. H. Carter, Quitman, Mrs. B. J. McRae, Mrs. C. W. Roberts, Mrs. Clarence Fleming, Crandall, Miss., and one brother, Alex J. McLendon, Quitman, and two half-brothers, G. E. and G. W. Yarbrough, Mobile, Ala., to mourn her untimely going, to every one of whom the entire Tribune force extends the most sincere sympathies.
