8 Dec 1922 Obits

J. E. Stovall
The Clarke County Tribune
The name of Stovall is a household one in Clarke County. More than 40 years ago Judge C. A. Stovall began the publication of The Mississippi Messenger at Shubuta. This truly great and good man remained at the head of the publication until his death, several years ago. After his death his son, J. E. Stovall, assumed full management of the paper and remained its editor until his death, which occurred last Friday at 6 o'clock at Shubuta.
"Ed Stovall", as he was known by his host of friends, was a big-hearted, brotherly man. The last several years he has been in declining health, but to the last he was the same royal fellow. J. E. Stovall knew how to live on the sunny side of life despite his afflictions and suffering.
One by one the "old guard" are falling! With the passing of J. E. Stovall the name of "Stovall" passes from the field of Clarke County journalism.
He is survived by one sister, who was unable to attend his funeral, and several near relatives in the county, including the Weems family.
We lay upon his grave this tribute of respect and deep appreciation of his real worth.
Clarke County has lost a good man, a capable editor, a true citizen, and a loyal American. Peace be to his ashes!
