Alfred L. White Jr., 78, of Jefferson Avenue, Wilmington Manor, died Friday of heart failure in the Franciscan Care Center at Wilmington, 801 N. Broom St., Wilmington.
   Mr. White was a pattern maker for the Deemer Steel Casting Co., New Castle, and retired in 1984 after 47 years.
   He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Bishop Becker Council, both in New Castle.
   He served in the Delaware National Guard in Battery H 198th, from 1934 to 1940.
   His wife, Rita M. Harlan White, died in 1987. Survivors include three sons, Gerald A. of Baltimore, John J. of Rohnert Park, Calif., and James M. of Blacksburg, Va.; three daughters, Jane L. Gott of Newark, Joanne M. Hitch of Clearwater, Fla., and Marie R. Yarrusso, at home; a sister, Betty Jane Smith of New Castle; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
   Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. Du Pont Highway, Wilmington Manor. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 801 N. Du Pont Parkway. Burial will be in St. Peter's Church Cemetery, New Castle.
