Emma Lou Watts
The Clarke County Tribune
Services were held for Emma Lou Watts at Amos Memorial CME Church in Los Angeles, CA. on Thursday, July 15, 1993.
Emma Lou Watts was born September 22, 1911 in Quitman, Mississippi. She was one of eighteen children; fifteen born to the union of Lewis and Lennie Atterberry, and later three born to the union of Lewis and Aslean Atterberry.
At an early age Emma joined the White Oak Baptist Church where she actively participated in the Choir and Sunday School. Later she was joined in holy matrimony to Jim Tisdale, a union which produced one son, James Tisdale.
Having lost her husband, Jim, she joined her sister, Ruth in Detroit, Michigan where the challenge of raising a son alone was made easier by her continuing church activities and later by her marriage to the late Joe C. Watts.
In 1964, having relocated to California, Emma, along with Joe, united with St. John C.M.E. Church, now Amos Memorial C.M.E. Church. The church was a prominent part of their lives and Emma served in many capacities until the Lord lifted her to his bosom Friday morning, July 9, 1993.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving son, James Tisdale and wife, Neutris Tisdale; stepdaughter, Donzell Copeland; two grandchildren, Sharon Johnson and Yvette Tisdale; two sisters, Fannie Lee Couton and Carrie Carter; two brothers Robert and Charles Atterberry; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
