John (Jack) Gordon Gunn

Graveside services for John (Jack) Gordon Gunn were held on March 24, 1994, at the Pachuta Cemetery.
   Mr. Gunn, age 84, of Ridgeland, died March 22, 1994, of heart failure at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.
   He was the former owner and operator of the General Mercantile Store in Pachuta and was a member of the Pachuta Methodist Church.
   Survivors include one son, Dr. Jack Gordon Gunn, Clinton; one sister, Mrs. Maureen Devereau, Lake Charles, LA; and three grandchildren, Brian Adkins, Madison; Dr. Todd Adkins, St. Louis, MO; and Dr. Mark Gordon Gunn, Ridgeland.
   He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Gunn and his daughter, Faith Gunn Adkins.


Dr. Oscar Wilson Irby

Services for Dr. Oscar Wilson Irby were held on March 25, 1994, at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Stonewall Cemetery. Rev. James Ruffin officiated.
   Dr. Irby, age 66, of Meridian, died March 22, 1994, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
   Dr. Irby attended the University of Southern Mississippi and the University Medical Center in Jackson. He was vice preisdent of his jr. class, president of his senior class and honor council. Upon completion of his studies and internship at Baptist Medical Center in Nashville, he returned to Meridian to establish a general practice in association with Jeff Anderson. He was a member of Popular Springs Drive Baptist Church.
   Survivors include his wife, Virginia Irby, Meridian; a son, Mike Irby and wife, Donna, of Meridian; three daughters, Carol Irby Nunn and husband, Mike, of Jackson; Merri Faith Irby Brown and husband, Bryon Patrick, Babenhausen, Germany; Tracey Irby Thompson and husband, Keith, Meridian; two grandsons, Travis Wilson Irby and Jason Patrick Brown; and two sisters, Bonnie Tindle, Stems, Kentucky, and Margaret Chancelor, Stonewall.
   Pallbearers were Charles Gray, Houston Ballard, John Boling, Bernard Hoy, Pete Davis, Charles Balchunas, Hodges Riggan, and Buddy Coleman.


Elizabeth Lenore Griffin

Services for Elizabeth Lenore Griffin were held on March 25, 1994, at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Concord Cemetery in Newton County. Rev. Johnny Mosley and Rev. David Williams officiated.
   Mrs. Griffin, age 86, of Quitman, died on March 23, 1994, at Archusa Convalescent Center.
   Survivors include four sons, Larwence Moore, Moselle; Roy Moore, Columbia; Kenneth Moore, Meridian; and Robert Moore, Memphis, TN; three daughters, Thelma Boleware, McLain, MS; Ella Boleware, Sandy Hook, MS; and Doris Boykin, Shubuta; thirty-five grandchildren; eighty-eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.


Jessie Jefferson Bates

Services for Jessie Jefferson Bates were held on March 26, 1994, at Rolling Creek Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Billy Brumfield and Rev. Clay Chancelor officiated.
   Mr. Bates, age 77, of Stonewall, died on March 24, 1994, at Rush Hospital.
   Survivors include his wife, Willie Opal Bates, Stonewall; two sons, Daniel Bates, Carriere, MS; and Josh Bates, Stonewall; three brothers, Sammy Bates, Moss Point; James Chub Bates and Joe Bates, Philadelphia; two sisters, Inez McLaughlin, Pensacola, FL; and Frances Rutledge, Dallas, Texas, and one grandchild.


Helen Pouncey

Services for Helen W. Pouncey were held on March 26, 1994, at Fellowship Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Lester Gardner, Rev. Keith Bogan, and Rev. Buddy Petty officiated.
   Mrs. Pouncey, age 75, of Enterprise, died on March 24, 1994, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
   Survivors include four sons, Ken Pouncey, Decatur; Curt Pouncey, Collinsville; Alvin Pouncey, Brandon; and Don Pouncey, Hartselle, AL; and nine grandchildren; a brother, Rev. B. E. Williams of Foxworth, MS.


Stella Maude Robinson

Services for Stella Maude Robinson were held on March 28, 1994, at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Rev. Charles Belt, Rev. Grant Duncan and Rev. Mark Thead officiated.
   Mrs. Robinson, age 81, of Quitman, died March 26, 1994, at H.C. Watkins Hospital.
   Survivors include two sons, James W. Robinson and James Clarence Robinson, Jr., both of Quitman; a daughter, Mrs. Opal Long, Quitman; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Burt, Quitman; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.


Franklin Landrus (Junior) Moffett

Services for Franklin Landrus Moffett were held on March 28, 1994, at Union Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. John Edwards officiated.
   Mr. Moffett, age 66, of Meridian, died March 27, 1994, at his residence.
   He attended Mississippi State University, served in the U.S. Navy and World War II, was a member of the Union Baptist Church, employed by James River Corp. for twenty-six years.
   Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Moffett, Meridian; three sons, William Landrus Moffett, Meridian; Michael Jones Moffett, Atlanta, GA; Ray Paul Moffett, Philadelphia; two step-sons, Terry J. Moak, Tylertown; Richard B. Moak, Columbus, Texas; one step-daughter, Sherry M. Nored, Dahlonega, GA; a sister, Doris M. Standford, Livingston, fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
