Services for Earl H. Brewer were held May 29, 1995, at The Mackey Mortuary with burial in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. Rev. William W. McNeill officiated.
Mr. Brewer, 74, of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, died May 27, 1995. He was born in Shubuta to the late Henry Chester and Janie Long Brewer.
He was owner and operator of Ventilated Awning Corporation and was a charter member of St. Matthew Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board and Building Committee. He was a member of the National Cattlemen's Association and was formerly a member of the Board of the Southeast Area Zoning Commission. He served in the U.S. Army Corps and was a veteran of WW II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Hill Brewer; a son and daughter-in-law, Victor B. and Diane H. Brewer, Easley; two sisters, Bea B. Loeb, Meridian and Gladys B. Roberts, Blythewood, SC; a brother, James C. Brewer, Shubuta and one granddaughter, Abi Brewer.

Coyt Shaeffer Sykes

Services for Coyt Shaeffer Sykes were held May 29, 1995, at O'Bryant - O'Keefe Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula. Dr. Rex Yancey, Rev. Dennis Ray Smith, Rev. Robert Kates and Rev. Stan Loyd officiated.
Mr. Sykes, 88, of Pascagoula, died May 27, 1995. He was born October 27, 1906 in Quitman. He was retired from Illinois Central Railroad as an engineer in the Jackson MS Transportation division with 30 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pascagoula.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Catherine Sykes; daughter, Peggy S. Hoover and son-in-law, Dr. Jack C. Hoover; a son, John O. Sykes and daughter-in-law, Camille C. Sykes, all of Pascagoula; grandchildren, Jack C. Hoover, Jr., Nashville, TN; Catherine M. Delgado, New Orleans, LA; Myrtle H. Delgado and husband, Nester Delgado, New Orleans; and Bradley P. Sykes, Pascagoula; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Serving as pallbearers were Jack Hoover, Jr., Bradley Sykes, Grady Sykes, Greg Sykes, Nestor Delgado and Stephen Potter. Honary pallbearers were Joe Leatherbury and Patrick Kelly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the First Baptist Church, Pascagoula.
Eula Jay Shirley

Services for Eula Jay Shirley were held May 28, 1995, at First Baptist Church, Quitman with burial in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Dr. John Stevens officiated.
Mrs. Shirley, 94, of Quitman, died May 26, 1995, at H. C. Watkins Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 10, 1901, to Harvey Simeon Brunson and Ada Naomi Stone Brunson of the Union Community in Clarke County. She attended MS Normal (USM) and taught in DeSoto, Stonewall and Carmichael Schools and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church, WMU and Eastern Star for over 50 years. She belonged to Ladies Auxiliary of World War I veterans. She was selected outstanding club member of Clarke County Homemakers and served as secretary for this club and others. She taught Sunday School for many years and enjoy giving devotionals.
Survivors include two sons, John F. Shirley, Sr., Quitman; and Harvey M. Shirley, Meridian; two daughters, Ruby Graham, Purvis; and Sara Long, Russell; a sister, Kizzie Culpepper, Starkville; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
"Mama Shirley" was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward (Edd) Shirley; a son, James Edward (Jimmy) Shirley; a sister, Ruby Brunson Jones of Houston, TX; and two brothers, John Franklin Brunson and Harvey Lamar Brunson of the Union Community.
Ellis E. Pettis

Services for Ellis E. Pettis were held June 5, 1995, at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Zion Rest Cemetery. Rev. Randall Walker officiated.
Mr. Pettis, 86, of Shubuta, died June 3, 1995, at Rush Hospital.
Survivors include a son, Thomas P. Pettis, Shubuta; two daughters, Leona P. Smith, Meridian; and Virginia E. Pettis, Shubuta; a brother, Sam Pettis, Shubuta; sister, Ollie Mable Williams, Chatom, AL; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
