Virginia France Perkins (1917-2002)

Virginia France Perkins was born on 26 December 1917 in Elkton, Maryland. She died on 9 January 2002 in Pennsylvania. She married Philip George Cressman.

Virginia "Jinny" Perkins Cressman, who grew up in Swarthmore, died on January 9 in Collingdale at the home she shared with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Louise and Daniel Hickman. She was 84.
Mrs. Cressman was the widow of the late Philip G. Cressman. Born in 1917 in Elkton, MD, she was a daughter of Mary H. and Joseph H. Perkins, Sr. When she was six, she moved to Swarthmore where her family bought a pre-Revolutionary house known locally as Ogden House.
Mrs. Cressman graduated in 1938 from Swarthmore High School and studied dressmaking for a year at a school in Philadelphia. In her teens, she was a counselor at Camp Sunshine, and occasionally worked as a waitress at the Inglenook Tea Room.
Following her marriage, she lived in several places in the county, but remained a frequent visitor to her family home and to friends in Swarthmore. She was a member of Swarthmore Friends Meeting. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Joseph H. Perkins, Jr., and a daughter Deborah Cressman Prince.
Mrs. Cressman is survived by daughters Judith Cressman of Chadds Ford, Cordelia Bardroff of Middletown, and Mary Louise Hickman; a son, Caleb Cressman of Concordville; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters Leanore and Anne Perkins, both of Swarthmore; and several nieces and nephews.
