Obituary [www.mccreryandharra.com]
Marshall passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 9, 2014.
Devoted to Betsy, his wife of 60 years; father of Jim Harlan (Carole) and Jude Quinn; son of the late J. Marshall and Ruth Kimball Harlan; brother to the late Betty Kennedy and the late Ruth Plummer; brother-in-law to James D. (Sharon) Joyner, Joanne Joyner, Ruth Ann Joyner and Fred Zimmerli; grandfather to Scott, Kim, Melissa, David, Paul, Rosina and Matt; great-grandfather to Claudia and Olivia; loving uncle to a multitude of awesome nieces and nephews; and special friend to 10 kitties and 4 pups.
Marshall was a gifted artist, singer and guitar player. The Harlan home is decorated with several of his landscape paintings. And his booming bass was an integral part of the Hanover Presbyterian Church choir for over 50 years. Trains were also his passion from a young age. His encyclopedic knowledge about trains from around the world was legendary.
A Korean War vet, Marshall worked for Atlas Chemical Co then ICI America for over 18 years then retired to join Betsy in their thriving Shaklee business. They traveled to Shaklee conventions in Europe, the Caribbean, and the U.S., making life-long friends along the way.
Marshall was a truly gentle, loving man with a firm handshake and ready hug (giggle included) for all his beloved family and friends. His love of chocolate cake was absolute and well known. If cake was to be had, he was going to have it!
A memorial service will be held March 8th, at 11:00 AM at Hanover Presbysterian Church, 1801 N. Jefferson St., Wilm., DE 19802. A reception will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hanover Presbyterian Church or team United for a Cure, www.relayforlife.org/wilmingtonde.
