Miss Carrie Hatcher
The Clarke County Tribune
Miss Carrie Hatcher, pretty 18-year-old high school girl, daoghter of Mr. and Mrs. George Hatcher, was chocked to death in a pasture near her home and her body thrown into a shallow brook, where it was found late Sunday night by her father and a party of searchers comprised of neighbors, who were gathered when the young lady failed to return at dark after she had gone to drive the cows home. Circumstances surrounding the brutal murder lead the authorities to believe it was the result of an attempt of criminal assualt by an unknown negro, who was seen to go in the direction taken by the girl, and who choked her to death in an effort to silence her cries, then becoming frightened, carried her body to the brook and made his escape without accomplishing his purpose.
Late reports from the scene of the crime are to the effect that no clew has been as o the guilty party. However officers are still scouring the country. Two negro suspects are in jail.
