NEWTON - Services for Ruby Edna Ivy Johnson will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Riley Burton officiating. Burial will be in Newton County Memorial Gardens.
   Mrs. Johnson, 90, of Hickory, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was a very special person to all who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also was a devoted member of Hickory United Methodist Church for more than 70 years.
   Survivors include her daughter, Ruth Brewer and her husband, Dewayne, of Jackson; a son-in-law, Billy Houston of Newton; sisters, Jessie Ruth Lucy of Newton, Margaret Moran and her husband, Rodney, of Daphne, Ala.; Dorothy Moran and her husband, Joe, of Gulfport; brothers, Cecil Ivy and his wife, Sue, of Decatur, Raymond Ivy and his wife, Irene, of Superior, Wis., and Edwin Ivy and his wife, Nada, of Powell, Wyo.; a granddaughter, Pat Anglin and her husband, Brian, of Madison; two great-grandsons, Drew Anglin and Zach Anglin, both of Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Johnson; a daughter, Ruby Houston; sisters, Bessie Mae Harris and Bertie Gressett; and brothers, Leo Ivy, John Will Ivy and Lunell Ivy.
   Donations may be made to Hickory United Methodist Church, 16 East Washington St., Hickory, MS 39332.
   Pallbearers will be William Lucy, Alen Jones, Gerald Glenn, Tommy Johnson, Joe Johnson and Herbert Lee Harris.
   Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Services for James Otis Jones will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Rose Hill Baptist Church in Union with the Rev. Carl Smith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Latimer Metropolitan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
   Mr. Jones, 72, of Meridian, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in the North Lake Hospital in Tucker, Ga.
   Survivors include his sons, Chaunice Jones of Union, Tony Jones of Tucker, Ga., and three grandchildren.
   Visitation will be today from 7 p.m. -8 p.m. at the funeral home.

WEIRTON, W.V. - Memorial services for Michael Millard Chandler were held on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Evangel Baptist Church in Weirton. Burial was in Valley Grove Cemetery near Wedowee, Ala. Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
   Mr. Chandler, 57, of Steubenville, Ohio, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
   Survivors include his wife, Sandra Lipham Chandler, of Steubenville; sons, Michael Chandler and his wife, Rhonda, Mark Chandler and his wife, Angelisa, David Chandler and his wife, Kathy, all of Meridian; six grandchildren and a sister, Madlyn Lynn Chandler of Auburn, Ala., and several students and friends.

NEWTON - Services for Charles Clifton Carson will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Mark Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Conehatta Methodist Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Carson, 86, of Conehatta, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest. He had a long and varied career that began in 1940 with F.S. clerkships at Montevideo, Asunción and Lima. he went on to hold assignments as principal officer at Brisbane, Põrto Alegre, Noumea and Seville; and as diplomatic secretary and/or consular officer at Vancouver, Lisbon, Saigon (also credited to Phnom Penh and Vientiane), Rio de Janiero, Matamoros, Maples and in the department as a desk officer for Paraguay. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
   Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Corinth Winston Eckman Carson; sons, Charles C. Carson II of Dallas, James H.W. Carson and his wife, Penny, of Mount Bethel, Penn., Peter J. Carson of Conehatta and Thomas W. Carson and his wife, Brenda, of Decatur; six grandchildren, Phillip, Courtenay, Christopher, Scott, Jennifer and Jeremy Carson; sisters, Bettye Blackburn Hatcher of Cleburne, Texas, and Peggy Lawrence of Merritt Island, Fla.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Nan Williams Carson.
   Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m. -8 p.m. at the funeral home.

JACKSON - Services for Claire Bass Hayes were held on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel. A private graveside service and burial was held at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery.
   Mrs. Hayes, 69, of Clinton, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Church in Jackson. She was born in Meridian in 1935 to the late Henry Barksdale Bass and Alma Poole Bass. She was a graduate of Meridian High School and Meridian Junior College, where she received a degree in business education.
   She was a former resident of Memphis, Tenn., where she lived for more than 20 years. She was retired from the Ford Motor Company in Memphis where she worked as a Leasing Representative and in the claims department.
   Mrs. Hayes had been living in the Clinton area for more than 10 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was an avid bridge player and a member of the local bridge clubs in Clinton. She enjoyed working in her yard and had beautiful flowerbeds. She loved the beach and traveled there often, where she had a second home. She also loved reading.
   Survivors include her sisters, Patsy Price and Peggy Hightower, both of Clinton and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Mable Clayton will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Daleville Cemetery. Latimer Metropolitan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
   Mrs. Clayton, 79, of Meridian, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Rush Foundation Hospital.
   Survivors include daughters, Octavia Truman of Meridian and Bridgett Clayton of Northfork, Va.; sons, Carlos Clayton and Wesley Clayton, both of Meridian; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Essie Mae Richardson of Laurel.
   Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. -9 p.m. at Daleville United Methodist Church.

   Mrs. Anderson, 97, of Meridian, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
   Survivors include her sister, Dorothy Tanner Bullock of Charleston, S.C.; a brother-in-law, Nathan Anderson; nieces and nephews, John T. Mosley, Duane C. Tanner, Maxine Lund, Michael E. Bullock, Patrick S. Bullock and his wife, Susan, Cassandra Bullock Jenkins and her husband, Earnest, Patricia Graham, Barbara Linton, Arlene Riley, Della Ann Saint, Alice Robinson and her husband, Jimmy, Joe Tanner, Jane Tanner, Carolyn Kozman, Donald Tanner, Clarence McElroy, David McElroy and Sherra Kaye Delonas.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ulmer Anderson; brothers, C.F. Tanner, B.L. Tanner, Reuben Tanner and Bennie Tanner; sisters, Celeste Tanner Keetch and Evelyn Tanner Wells.

Memorial services for Aubrey Love Hopper will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Enondale Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Barham Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
   Mr. Hopper, 79, of Lauderdale, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Jackson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a long time business man in Lauderdale.
   Survivors include his son, Dennis L. Hopper and his wife, Deborah, of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Lucas Hopper and Amy Hixson, both of Tucson; one great-grandchild, Nestley Hixson of Tuscon; a brother, Ike Hopper and his wife, Betty, of Porterville; sisters, Madge Geotsi and Mary Ellen Bright and her husband, Dan, all of Picayune, Geanette Carr of Tupelo, Burnice Guest of Orlando and Myriam Norwood of Trumbull, Conn. and several nieces and nephews.
   Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

   Mrs. Thompson, 85, of Chunky, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church.
   Survivors include her daughters, Gail Henson and her husband, Buddy, Joyce Rogers, Betty Clark and her husband, John and Jan Fisher and her husband, Gary; grandchildren, Karen Fisher, Kerry Henson, Melanie Clark, Kyle Rogers, Gary Fisher Jr., Jason Clark, Ty Clark, Amy Vick, Steve Gressett and Kim Brackeen.

Services for Candace Irene McInnis will be held today at 11:30 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Gill officiating. Burial will be in Cokers Chapel Cemetery.
   Ms. McInnis, 26, of Ocean Springs, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, in Ocean Springs. She was a member of Poplar Springs Driver United Methodist Church. She was a 1996 graduate of Northeast Lauderdale High School, Meridian Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a social worker at Southern Care Hospice in Van Cleve.
   Survivors include her parents, Jimmy and Barbara McInnis of Meridian; a sister, Jamie Lynn Quinn and her husband, Nicholas, of Meridian; nephews, Paxton and Colton Quinn of Meridian; her grand-mothers, Ruby Brooks of Natchez and Betty McInnis of Marion; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a special friend, Bobby Weed of Meridian and her special cocker spaniel, Sybil Marie.
   She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Lonnie Davis Sr. of Natchez and J.B. McInnis of Marion.


Vallie Gressett

JACKSON - Services for Vallie "Grace" Gressett will be held today at 1 p.m. at Lakewood South Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Wood officiating. Burial will be Lakewood South Memorial Park Cemetery.
   Mrs. Gressett, 87, of Pensacola, Fla., died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at the Specialty Center in Pensacola.
   She was born on March 6, 1917 in Cuba, Ala. She was a longtime resident of Meridian and Jackson before moving to Pensacola and she was a former member of Griffith Memorial Baptist Church in Jackson and Scenic Heights Baptist Church in Pensacola. She was a faithful servant to God as she was a mentor to many, bringing them faith and religion. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
   Survivors include her daughter, Betty Cockrell and her husband, John; a son, Lavon Gressett; grandchildren, Richard Carden and his wife, Alice, Donna Hollen, Teresa Hudson and her husband, Brian, Andy Gressett and Danny Gressett; great-grandchildren, Dale Carden, Brandon Hudson, Cody Hollen and Jesse Hollen and her loving and faithful companion her dog, Bridgett.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Gressett and a sister, Vera Davis.
   Visitation will be today beginning at 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Services for Thomas V. "Tom" Melton Sr. will be held today at 10 a.m. at Druid Hills United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with graveside services conducted by the Grand Lodge of Misississippi F. & A.M. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
   Mr. Melton, 91, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Durant, a longtime resident of Pascagoula and moved to Meridian in 1987. He was a member of Druid Hills United Methodist Church and the Friends Together Sunday School Class. He was a 58-year Master Mason in good standings in the Grand Lodge of F.&A.M. No. 419 and a member of the Wahabi Shriners A.A.O.N.M.S. of Jackson.
   Survivors include his wife, Annie Melton of Meridian; a son, Tom Melton and his wife, Pam, of Greenville; grandchildren, T.J. Melton and Danielle Melton, both of Greenville, S.C.; a daughter, Betty Melton; a sister, Louie Mae Giles of Monticello; a special friend, Becky Luke of Meridian; several nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers will be Hubert Langford, Jimmy Myers, Earl Miller, James Bond, Pete Lucovich, Warren Collins and John Gressett.
   Visitation will be today 30 minutes prior to the service.
