Age 81, a life-long resident of Wilmington, DE, passed from this life into his next life quietly and peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, with all of his family present.
His life was a testimony to all who experience long illness and loss of physical ability. It was a testimony of the strength and sufficiency of the Lord Jesus Christ and how He alone can supply all our needs and truly grant the peace that passes all understanding. Paul served in the U.S. Navy during World War II for over 3 years and was proud to be at the signing of the Peace Treaty in Tokyo Bay. After his service to our country, he was an optician and had a business with his son that gave him great satisfaction. Paul was a kind, gentle man who never spoke ill of anyone and never used bad language. He loved the Lord and worshipped at the First Baptist Church of Ogden (PA) for 35 years. Not only a member, Paul sang in the choir and loved and was loved by all the members of the church.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Pastor Danny Hicks and all the compassionate staff at Select Specialty Hospital.
Paul is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dolores; their children, Paul and Debbie Sherwood, Dale and Gayle Sherwood, Billy and Donna Potts, and Jim and Linda Irvin; his brother, Kenneth Sherwood, his sister, Eleanor Bridges; 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Tara, Devon, Jessica and Samantha; and 6 little great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Eva Sherwood; his grandson, Cody and his brother, James Sherwood.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Monday, March 3, at First Baptist Church of Ogden, Naamans Creek & Mill Rds., Boothwyn, PA 19061 where a viewing will be held after 10 am. Interment will be at Lawn Croft Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Paul's memory by sending a contribution to his beloved church home, First Baptist Church of Ogden.
