Samuel Stewart, 89, a lifelong resident of Wilmington, died on October 1, 2009.
Son of the late Samuel P. and Harriet Stewart, Sam was a graduate of P.S. duPont High School and proudly served our country in the United States Army during WWII. He spent his entire career working for the Pennsylvania Railroad, and after retirement, enjoyed bowling and traveling. Sam was a longtime member of the Masonic fraternity.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy C. Stewart, 1 step-son, Martin Cockerham; 1 brother, James C. Stewart; 5 step-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; several step-great-grandchildren; and 1 step-great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death in 1997 by his first wife of 56 years, Marian Stewart.
A viewing will be held from 10-11am, Friday, October 9 at Hanover Presbyterian Church, (where Sam was a longtime member) followed by the funeral service at 11am. Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring the memory of Samuel Stewart by sending a contribution to Hanover Presbyterian Church, 1801 N. Jefferson St., Wilmington, DE 19802.
