Services for Joseph Bryant, Sr., age 98, of Quitman, were held on November 14, 1991, at Pearlie Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Bryant was born on March 7, 1893 and departed this life on November 7, 1991, at Archusa Convalescent Center.
He was married to Ms. Florence McGowan who preceded him in death. To this union six children were born.
At the time of his death, he was a devout member of Pearlie Grove during his active years. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. A love of his fellowman was one of his many outstanding characteristics. He was a veteran of World War I.
Mr. Bryant is survived by three sons, Jimmy and Johnny, both of Quitman; Joseph Jr., (Brenda); three daughters, Katie Ruth Dear, Quitman; Mrs. Lovie McGee (George); Cincinanati, Ohio; and Mrs. Rosie Shanks (Billy) Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Richard Bryant, Shuqlak; twenty-three grandchildren; forty-two great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren and many more relatives. Turner Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Services for Lisa M. VanDeWalker, age 34, of Baton Rouge, La.; were held on November 16, 1991, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, La., with burial in the Green Oaks. Memorial Park in Baton Rouge.
She passed away on November 14, 1991, in Baton Rouge.
She was a graduate of Meridian High School, attended the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph A. VanDeWalker, Sr., daughter, Raven Lee; son, Joseph A. VanDeWalker, Jr., Denham Springs, La.; mother, Elwina B. Robst; step-father, Paul K. Robst, Quitman; brother, Kelly McMullan, Meridian; step-sister, Stephanie Robst Cook, Knoxsville, Tenn.; step-brothers, Paul Robst, Jr., Fort Collins, Co.; Phillip K. Robst, Atlanta; paternal grandmother, Minnie McMullen, Meridian; uncle, Jack McMullan, Meridian; and Aunt Sandra McMullan, Albequerque, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dalton McMullan and paternal grandfather, David D. McMullan; and maternal grandparents, Les and Mamie Beeman.
Edna L. "Bob" Thornhill

Services for Edna L. "Bob" Thornhill, age 68, of Stonewall, were held on November 14, 1991, at Stonewall Baptist Church with burial in the Stonewall Cemetery. Rev. Doc Williamson, Rev. Nell Mackey and Rev. Jerry Doggett officiated.
Mrs. Thornhill passed away on November 12, 1991, at Riley's Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Noblin, Monticello; Merry Chandler, Stonewall; two sisters, Lola Mae Hamil, Hattiesburg; Vermell Myers, Stonewall; and three grandchildren.
Sarah Lucile Boykin Davidge

FOREST GROVE, OR - Services for Lucile Davidge, 90, were held at Fuiten Funeral Home Chapel on November 12. Rev. Jim Johnson, pastor at New Hope Baptist Church, officiated.
The Rev. Buddy Braddock led a memorial service honoring Mrs. Davidge at the Pine Grove Bapitst Church, Rt. 3, Quitman, on the same day and hour as the service in Oregon. Mrs. Dora Lois McRee played a medley of hymns for the service.
Mrs. Davidge passed away on Nov. 6 at Truality Community Hospital in Hillsboro, Oregon. She was a native of the Crandall Community and had resided in Forest Grove for the past 42 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Frances Perritt of Quitman; five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
She spent her early years in Crandall and attended school in the community. Later, she was employed as a cafeteria worker at Carmichael school.
After marrying, she moved to Forest Grove, Oregon and found employment in a cannery where she retired after 20 years.
In her later years, Mrs. Davidge lived with her daughter O'nolia Thompson in Forest Grove until Mrs. Thompson's death three years ago at age 64.
SFC Harry Caleb Nix

The Rev. Delbert Freeman conducted funeral services Wednesday, November 13 for SFC Harry Caleb Nix at Wright's Funeral Home in Quitman.
Nix, 56, died Sunday, Nov. 10 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian.
His military career began in 1954 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After three years active duty, he enlisted briefly in the Army Reserve before joining the Mississippi Army National Guard as an infantry squad leader.
In 1977, he began recruiting full-time for the Guard in Quitman. He temporarily left the post to serve as an administrative supply technician for the Quitman unit, returning to recruit for the 150th Quartermaster Battalion until the time of his death.
Nix had been awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Reserve Component Achievement Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Mississippi War Medal, Mississippi Service School Medal, Mississippi Longevity Medal with three devices, and the Mississippi Medal of Efficiency.,
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Charlotte Nix of Quitman; a son, Bryon Nix also of Quitman; two daughters Angela Humphrey of Quitman and Mrs. Michelle Farris of Enterprise; a brother, Tom Nix of Illinois; two sisters, Mrs. Pat Dodd of Lakeland, FL and Mrs. Harriet Lamburth of Jackson; and three grandchildren.
Visitation was from 2 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12. Internment was at Hopewell Cemetery.
