George Kevin Irby

Memorial services for George Kevin Irby will be held Sunday, July 29 at 3:00 p.m. from the Pine Hill Baptist Church on Highway 11 in Enterprise.
   Irby, 34, of Rt. 2 Enterprise, has been missing since November 3, 1989 when the drill ship Seacrest capsized in the Gulf of Thailand during a typhoon.
   Rev. Taylor Wallace will deliver a memorial service. Kevin Irby's Lodge Brothers of the Masonic Lodge No. 585 of Enterprise will serve as honorary pallbearers. Masonic rites will be conducted at Pine Hill Cemetery immediately following the church service.
   He is survived by his wife Mary Cathryn Irby of Enterprise; two sons, Kevin Jason, age 13, and Jameson Kyle Irby, age 5, of Enterprise; parents John D. Irby of Enterprise and Louise Mosher of Enterprise; three brother, Johnnie D. Irby, Jr. of Stonewall, James R. Irby of Enterprise and David L. Irby of Meridian; and two sisters, Teresa Irby Robinson and Donna Irby Moss, both of Quitman.
   Kevin's brother Delvin P. Irby was killed in the same accident aboard the Seacrest.
   The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Masonic Lodge at Enterprise for use in their fund for the needy.

Lucille H. Slay

Mrs. Lucille H. Slay, 74, died Saturday, July 21st. Funeral services were held Monday, July 23 at Pine Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Slay resided on Route 4, Quitman. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
   She is survived by her husband Leo Slay of Quitman; a daughter, Frankie Davis of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Bertha Ivey of Quitman and Eva Chapman of Laurel; one grandson and two granddaughters.
   Wright's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Myrtis Inez Griffin

Funeral services for Myrtis Inez Griffin were held Friday, July 20 at Hebron Ridge Baptist Church. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Griffin, 70, died July 18 at H.C. Watkins Hospital.
   A member of Hebron Ridge Baptist Church, she is survived by her husband, Leon Griffin of Quitman; three sons, Rev. Lester Griffin and Chris Griffin of Quitman and Brad Griffin of Petal; two daughters, Mrs. Rosie Long and Mrs. Marie Welborn of Quitman; five brothers, Aubie Hamburg, Lavon Reese and Horace Reese, all of Quitman; Roger Reese of Memphis, Tenn. and Cleo Hamburg of Clara; six sisters, Elsie Simpson, Artie Dearman, Flossie Dearman and Voncille Dearman of Quitman, Lillie Mae Humphrey of Meridian and Johnnie Johnson of Needham, Alabama; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
   Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Davis.
   Wright's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Frances Satre

Funeral services for Frances Satre, 78, were held Wednesday, July 18 from Wright's Funeral Home Chapel. She died Tuesday, July 17 at Wayne General Hospital in Waynesboro.
   Burial was in Jones County with the Rev. Lewis Allred officiating.
   Mrs. Satre was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Beard of Shubuta. She was an active member of the Shubuta Eastern Star, a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for a time and was an active member of the Evergreen Community.
   Mrs. Satre was a contributing writer for The Wayne County News and was active in her homemaker's Club. She was also an avid gardener, sharing her flowers with church, family and friends.
   After joining her son in Dayton, Ohio she went to work as a nurse at the Ohio State Mental Institute, and returned to Mississippi upon her retirement.
   She is survived by a son, Phillip Satre of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two brothers, Lloyd Beard of Laurel and Marvin Beard of Jackson; and two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Yarbar of Naples, Florida and Mrs. Virginia Speaks of Laurel.
   Mrs. Satre was preceded in death by her husband Gudmund O. Satre of Norway.
   Wright's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
