Funeral services for Dr. George Clarence Carlson, Sr., 79, of Batesville, MS, were held Wednesday, July 23, 1990, at the Batesville Presbyterian Church. Rev. David Snellgrove and Rev. Wilber Smith officiated with burial in the Batesville Magnolia Cemetery.
Dr. Carlson passed away on Monday, July 23 at Baptist Central Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born April 29, 1911, Quitman, he was the son of the late George Arthur and Blanche Adams Carlson. He was a physician and a member of Batesville Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason, Rotarian, member of the Ole Miss Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Southern Medical Association, American Medical Association and the Mississippi Medical Association. Dr. Carlson attended Ole Miss, received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University and interned at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Christine Wooley Carlson, Batesville; one daughter, Mrs. Kathryn C. Smith, Tiptonville, Tenn.; two sons, Judge George C. Carlson, Jr., Batesville and James Christopher Carlson, Oxford; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Dukes and Mrs. Paulyne Terry, Quitman, one brother, Dr. Robert S. Carlson, La Habra, Calif., and four grandchildren.
