Birtha Carter Cameron

Birtha Carter Cameron passed away on August 19, 1990 at H.C. Watkins Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Rev. John L. and Mary Ella Carter.
She was a graduate of Lanier High School and Jackson State University. She taught in Clarke County Public Schools for more than thirty years. Mrs. Cameron later retired due to illness.
Mrs. Cameron was a dedicated State Mother Mary of John L. Webb Palace of Children for many years, a member of Clarke County JSU Alumni Chapter, teacher of the First Enterprise BTU Congress, member of the NAACP, Clarke County Voter League, and other civic organizations.
She is survived by her husband, Odell Cameron; daughter, Cassandra; two grandchildren, Keith and Sharon Cameron; four sisters, Helen Harris, Lessie Newsom of Chicago, Edith Carter of Jackson and Charlene Bradford, El Cerrito, Ca.; four brothers, John L. Carter of Columbus, Ga., N. L. Carter of Chicago, McKinley Carter of Detroit, MI., and Willie Carter of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were to be held today, Wednesday August 29, in New Orleans, La., for Mrs. Ellen McLendon Dabbs.
Mrs. Dabbs died Sunday, August 26, after an extended illness.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Merle Dabbs Daugherity; one son, R. W. Dabbs, Kingston, TN; a sister, Mrs. Mildred McLendon Myers of Raleigh, MS; and a brother, Frank A. McLendon of Quitman.

Services were held for Virgie S. Morgan, age 84, of Stonewall, on August 27, 1990, at Stonewall Methodist Church with Wright's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Stonewall cemetary. Rev. Nell Maki and Rev. Albert McMullan officiated.
She passed away on August 25, 1990, at H. C. Watkins Hospital.
She is survived by one daughter, Billie V. Carmichael, Stonewall, two sisters, Idell Shipp, JoAnna, S.C.; Gracie Mae Parker, Spartanburg, S.C.; two grandchildren, Allison Brashier, Chris Carmichael and one great grandchild, Trent Brashier.

Services for Esther Lee Parker, age 64, of Rt. 3, Vossburg, were held on August 23, 1990, at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Goodwater Cemetary. Rev. George Jimmisson and Rev. Edna Baker officiated.
Mrs. Parker passed away August 20, 1990, at H. C. Watkins Hospital.
She is survived by two sons, Roy Douglas Parker, Birmingham; David Parker, Prentiss; two daughters, Lee Dale Johnson; Barbara Guthrie, Vossburg; two brothers, Ben W. Elring, Quitman; Ben Elring, Vossburg; two sisters, Blondie Smith, Stonewall; Annie Mae Cooley, Heidelberg; 22 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her son, John A. Parker.

Services for William Early Walters, of Quitman, were held August 23, 1990, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Rex Yancy officiating. Burial was at Odd Fellows Cemetary. Wrights Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Walters passed away August 21, 1990, at H. C. Watkins Hospital.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Terral Lodge 504, Lions Club, Clarke County Brotherhood, he was a Mason and Shriner, and a member of Miss. Regional Housing Authority.
Mr. Walters is survived by his wife, Lucy Walter, Quitman; one stepdaughter, Sylvia Palm, Mobile; two brothers, Hollis Walters, Gulfport; Leland Walters, Tallulah, LA,; two sisters, Elma Keyes, Laurel; Lucille Moss, Long Beach; two step grandchildren, Keith and Bill Canamon, Mobile; and several neices and nephews.

Services for Mr. John H. Newsome, age 74, of Route 8, Laurel, were held Thursday, August 23, 1990, at Lawn Haven Baptist Church in Jones County with Memory Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Tolbert Traylor and Rev. Mack Carney officiated.
Mr. Newsome passed away Tuesday, August 21, 1990, at the V. A. Hospital in Jackson.
Mr. Newsome was the retired owner of Shorty's Barber Shop. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Lawn Haven Baptist Church, American Legion, and the V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel C. Newsome, Laurel; three sons, Johnny Ray Newsome, Quitman; Danny Newsome and Jeff Newsome, Laurel; three daughters, Linda Morrison, Wiggins; Amie Newsome and Deloris Newsome, Laurel; three step sons, George Martinez, Anthony Martinez and Scott Martinez, Laurel; four step daughters, Cindy Rayner, Jackson; Belinda Dearman and Teresa McCarty, Laurel; Pam Murphy, Bay Springs; three brothers, Billy Joe Newsome, Laurel; Woody Newsome, Mobile, Ala.; and Vol Newsome, Waynesboro; three sisters, Loretta Newsome, Waynesboro; Betty Perry, Clara, Ms.; and Juanese Clark, Maryland; fourteen grandchildren and on great grandchild.
