Services for Daisy Adeline Brand, age 84, of Laurel, were held on December 1, 1990, at Evangel Temple Assembly of God in Laurel. Burial was in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Rev. John Gerald and Rev. Paul Wetzel officiated. Wrights Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Brand passed away on November 28, 1990, at South Central Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Brand is survived by her husband, John Brand, Laurel; one son, Hershall Brand, Mobile, Ala.; one daughter, Shannon Holder, Laurel; one sister, Gertrude Duchesne, West Monroe, La.; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Otis Lott Tew

Services for Otis Tew, age 76, of Rt. 4, Quitman, were held December 1, 1990, at Pine Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Bob Powell and Rev. Bill Riley officiated. Wrights Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Tew passed away on November 30, 1990, at his residence.
Mr. Tew is survived by his wife, Myrtle Tew, Quitman; two daughters, Cathy Woodall, Miss Geneva Tew, both of Quitman; one sister, Irene Fairchild, Quitman; and three grandchildren.
Alvin Lavon Smith

Services for Alvin L. Smith, age 66, of Rt. 7, Meridian, were held on November 30, 1990, at Wrights Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Bucatunna Cemetery. Rev. Gary McInnis and Rev. Pete Shirley officiated.
Mr. Smith passed away on November 28, 1990, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Smith is survived by five brothers, James Edward Smith, Gautier; Jack Smith, John F. Smith, Jr., Willard Smith, and Odell Smith, all of Meridian; one sister, Ethel Mae Tucker, Quitman, and several nieces and nephews.
John H. Dillard

Services for John H. Dillard, age 79, were held November 12, 1990, at at First United Methodist Church with burial in Providence Cemetery in Stringer. Breeland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Rev. Allen Winstead and Rev. John Ed Thomas officiated.
Rev. Dillard passed away on November 10, 1990, at St. Dominic's Memorial Hospital in Jackson.
Rev. Dillard, a native of Clarke County, lived in Canton for 19 years. He attended Carmichael High School, and was a graduate of High Point College in High Point, N.C. He received his master's degree from Westminster Theological Seminary in Westminister, Md., and did advance study at Emory University School of Theology and Boston University.
After graduation, Rev. Dillard returned to Mississippi where he was appointed to Lena Charge. His other appointments include: Buccatuna, Eastlawn Church in Pascagoula, Burton Memorial in Gulfport, Kreole Church, St. Paul Church in Ocean Springs, Poplarville Church in Popularville, Parkway Heights in Hattiesburg; Briarwood in Jackson, and Canton First Church.
After serving in Canton for eight years, Rev. Dillard retired, but did serve Thorton Chapel Church for several years after his retirement. He was a former member of the Rotary Club and a member of the Mississippi United Methodist Conference.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbye J. Dillard, Canton; daughter, Robyn Cogdell of Fulton; brother, Tommy Dillard, Stonewall; sister, Susie Napp, Quitman; two granddaughters, Virginia Catherine Cogdell, and Lauren Elizabeth Cogdell, Fulton; three nephews and one niece.
Pallbearers were Danny Murphy, Cary Murphy, Fred Hall, Larry Waltman, Ronnie Foy, and James Foy. Honorary Pallbearers were members and officials of Thornton Chapel United Methodist Church and members of the United Methodist Conference.
