Longtime Anchorage resident Gerald R. Neuman, 67, a retired businessman, died August 2, 1990, at home after a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Nueman was born July 20, 1923, in Zimmerman, Minn.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic in England during WWII.
He and his wife, Ann, came to Alaska in 1951 and raised five children. According to the family, his first love was aviation and at one time operated a fleet of seven aircraft in Anchorage.
A family member made the following statement, "He had great pride in showing Alaska to visitors and especially loved the view from the air."
He and his wife owned and operated Welch's Style Shop, a clothing business in Anchorage and Fairbanks from 1961 until retirement in 1988.
Mr. Neuman is survived by his wife, Ann, of Anchorage; his sons, Bob, of Anchorage, and Perry of Bellingham, Wash.; his daughters, Julie Armstrong, Anchorage; Jane Dansby, Quitman; Kelli Slimp, Johnson City, Tenn.; brothers, Waldon, Anoka, Minn.; Donald, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; sisters, Lillian Kriesel, Zimmerman; Carol Anderson, Columbia Heights, Minn.; and twelve grandchildren.
