Maurease Johnson Taylor

Services for Maurease Johnson Taylor, age 77, were held on July 10, 1992, at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, Alabama, with a graveside service conducted by Rev. Guy Mims of Chickasaw.
   Mrs. Taylor, a native of Clarke County, passed away July 8, in the Mobile Infirmary.
   She is survived by four sisters, Iloise Moffett, Quitman; Ruth Johnson Sanderson, Waynesboro; Eloise Johnson Turner, McIntosh, Ala.; Jessie Johnson Scarbrough, Picayune; and one brother, Ernest E. Johnson, Saraland, Ala; four children, Cecil Taylor, Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; Evely Taylor, Prescott, Mobile, Ala.; Margie Taylor Goodman, Warnick, R.I.; Virginia Taylor LaBlanc, Gulfport.
   She graduated from Beat Four High School of the Snell Community and played center of the State Girls Basketball winning championship of Mississippi of 1935.


Mary Sue Sinclair Giroux

Services for Mary Giroux, age 54, of Sandersville, were held on Wednesday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, with burial in the Shady Grove First Baptist Church Cemetery in Jasper County. Rev. Sharber Smith officiated.
   Mrs. Giroux passed away on July 13, 1992, in Quitman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Shady Grove First Baptist Church in Heidelberg.
   She is survived by her mother, Nellie Sinclair of Quitman; one son, Charles E. Giroux of West Monroe, La.; one daughter, Vickie Giroux Foley, of Tyler, Texas; one brother, Billy Sinclair of Vossburg; four sisters, Peggy Cranford of Quitman; Willie Mae Ainsworth of Brandon; Nell Poore of Laurel and Amanda Giles of Heidelberg; and two grandchildren.
   Memory Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Earnestine Newton Sellers

Services for Sarah Earnestine Newton Sellers, age 82, of Quitman, were held on July 20, 1992, at DeSoto Baptist Church with burial in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Sanders, Rev. Jim Harris and Rev. Randall Walker officiated.
   Mrs. Sellers passed away on July 18, 1992, at the family residence. She was a lifelong member of the DeSoto Baptist Church and a member of the Gideon Auxillary.
   Mrs. Sellers is survived by her husband, Cicero E. Sellers, Quitman; two sons, George Sellers, Bobby Sellers, Quitman; one sister, Eloise McClinton, Quitman; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
   Memorial contributions may be made in lieu to the Gideons.


Vernon Earl Irby

Services for Vernon Earl Irby, age 63, of Rt. 7 Meridian, were held on July 21, 1992, at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Long Creek Cemetery. Rev. Jim Meadows officiated.
   Mr. Irby passed away on July 19, 1992, at F.G. Riley Memorial Hospital.
   He is survived by two sons, Vernon Earl Irby, Jr., Meridian; Michael Earl Irby, Houston, Texas; one daughter, Merrianne Draughon, Rt. 7 Meridian; one brother, Phillip Irby, Dallas, Texas; one sister, Virginia Holloman, Meridian; and two grandchildren.


Minnie Mae Hurst

Graveside services for Minnie Mae Hurst, age 76, of Rt. 4 Quitman, were held on July 18, 1992 at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Rev. Keyon Smith, Rev. Harrell Moore and Marcus Peagler officiated.
   Mrs. Hurst passed away on July 16, 1992, at H.C. Watkins Hospital.
   She is survived by her husband, V.G. "Bill" Hurst, Quitman; two sons, Major Hubbert Schrimpshire, Jr., Darryl Thomas Schrimpshire, both of Quitman; four daughters, Voncile Schrimpshire Jones, Sharon Schrimpshire Smith, Peggy Schrimpshire Miller and Brenda Schrimpshire Dearman, all of Quitman; one sister, Neva Simpson Grayson, Stonewall; sixteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
   Serving as pallbearers were: Keith Miller, Kippy Smith, Jason Dearman, Mack Loper, Keith Kenamore, Keyon Smith and Chuck Link.


Dr. Ellen McDevitt, M.D.

Dr. Ellen McDevitt, M.D., of Gulfport passed away on July 14, 1992.
   Dr. McDevitt was born in Shubuta, on September 3, 1907. She was the daughter of the late Dr. James Andrew McDevitt and Mrs. Alma Valentine "Vallie" McManus McDevitt and the granddaughter of the late Hugh and Elizabeth Bush McManus of Gulfport.
   She was a graduate of Gulfport High School, MSCW in 1930 and the Utah School of Medicine in 1949.
   She retired in 1972 with the rank of an Associate Professor of Medicine and Associate attending physician at New York Hospital. She was a member of the AMA, MSA, AHA, NYHA and MHA. She was a Fellow on the councils of Circulation and Stroke of the AHA, a member of the council on Thrombosis and a member of the International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis.
   Dr. McDevitt's 49 authorships included such studies as Long-Term Anticoagulant Therapy; Cerebrovascular Disease, the use of Antiocoagulants for Thrombophebitis during pregnancy; and Diagnosis and Modern Treatment of Cerebral Vascular Disease.
   She also was a member of Sigma Xi, Gulfport Yacht Club, Altrusa International, the Cosmopolitian Club of New York and the First Baptist Church.
   Riemann Funeral Home in Gulfport was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the MHG Development Foundation, P.O. Box 940, Gulfport.
