George Cleveland Taylor (1910-1979)

George Cleveland Taylor was born on 12 February 1910 in Mississippi. He died on 27 August 1979 in Mobile, Alabama. He married Hilda May Griffith on 27 September 1930 in Clarke, Mississippi.

   Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 30 at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile, Ala., for George Cleveland Taylor, a 71 year-old Saraland, Ala., resident who died Monday, Aug. 27, in a hospital in Mobile, Ala. Interment was in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
   Mr. Taylor was a mechanic by trade and worked at U.J. Chevrolet and Johnson Chevrolet in Mobile for the past years. Mr. Taylor also worked for several years at Dabbs Chevrolet in Quitman before moving to Mobile in 1947.
   Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hilda Taylor, Saraland, Ala., six daughters, Catherine Givens and Hilda McGuinness, both of Pasadena, Texas; Betty Massingill, Irvington, Ala., Jewel Andrews, Mobile, Ala., Shirley Whitworth, Huntsville, Ala., and Cynthia Roberts, Semmes, Ala.; three sons, George T. Taylor, Semmes, Ala., Master Sgt. James E. Taylor, Warner Robins, Ga., and CW2 Robert E. Taylor, Germany; two brothers, Chester Barnes, Chickasaw, Ala., and Samuel (Coot) Taylor, Quitman; four sisters, Myrtle Howard and Rachel Strickland, both of Meridian, Daisy Dew, Forest, and Clara Satcher, Quitman.
   Chapel services were held by Gary Minten. Graveside services were held by Penthala Lodge No. 804 with full Masonic honors.
