Services for Maybell Powell were held September 29, 1994, at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Antioch Cemetery. Rev. Johnnie Mosley and Rev. Albert Creel officiated.
Mrs. Powell, 80, of Quitman, died September 26, 1994, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include three sons, J. C. Mathis, John Edward Mathis and Roy Mathis, all of Quitman; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Ora P. Anderson

Services for Ora P. Anderson were held September 24, 1994, at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Manassa Cemetery. Rev. Keyon Smith officiated.
Ms. Anderson, 92 of Quitman, died September 21, 1994, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include three sisters, Annie Floy Williams, Bay Town, Texas; Mattie Gipson and Florence Yates, both of Mobile, AL; and several nieces and nephews.
Flora Pippen Harris

Services for Flora Pippen Harris were held October 4, 1994, at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Bro. Grady Crowell officiated.
Mrs. Harris, 86, of Quitman, died October 2, 1994, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include a son, Allen Harris, Jr., Quitman; a brother, Luther Pippen, Quitman; two sisters, Hazel Brewster and Annie Wylie, both of Butler; two grandchildren.
Gene Everett Toomey

Services for the Rev. Gene Everett Toomey were held September 28, 1994, at Freeman Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Lavon Holifield, John Ragsdale and Jeff Hall officiating. Burial was in Aquilla Cemetery in Aquilla, Al.
Rev. Toomey, 57, of Decatur, died September 25, 1994, at Hillview Nursing Home in Bastrop, Morehouse Parish County, LA. He was a former missionary with World Gospel Mission, an ordained Congregational pastor for 36 years, a high school teacher for 20 years, and a graduate of University of Houston and University of Southern Mississippi.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Toomey of Decatur; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny Toomey and Amy Toomey, both of Shubuta; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Gardner and Hampton Gardner, both of Decatur; a brother, William McCall Toomey of Fruitdale, Ala.; a sister, Mary Margaret Moyles of Mobile; two grandchildren, Danielle Toomey of Shubuta; and Casey Henslee of Decatur; and three step-grandchildren, Jacqueline Gardner, Justin Gardner and Kristin Gardner, all of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William McCall Toomey, Sr., and Marjorie Powell Edwards.
Violet Theo Coward Crocker

Services for Violet Theo Cowart Crocker were held on October 8, 1994, at Rolling Creek Baptist Church with burial in the Rolling Creek Cemetery. Rev. Billy Brumfield and Rev. Wilton Bennett officiated.
Mrs. Crocker, 82, of Stonewall, died October 6, 1994, at Archusa Convalescent Center.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Terrell Crocker, Stonewall; two sons, James Terrell Crocker; and William F. "Bill" Crocker, both of Quitman; three daughters, Joyce Lawrence, Vero Beach, Florida; Joan Lee, Quitman; Dotti Bain, Madison; two brothers, Wesley Cowart and Walter Cowart, both of California; two sisters, Inez Clark, and Vera Heathcock, both of Quitman; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Crocker was a charter member of Stonewall Eastern Star Chapter #365.
Grandsons served as pallbearers; Wayne Lawrence, Shane Lawrence, Craig Lawrence, Nicky Crocker, Paul Bain, Joe Bain and great-grandson Derek Lawrence.
Mildred Sanders Fitzgerald

Services for Mildred Sanders Fitzgerald were held October 11, 1994, at Pine Hill Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Claude Killian officiated.
Mrs. Fitzgerald, 78, of Bathell, Washington, died October 7, 1994, at Kesley Creek Convalescent Center in Bathell, Washington.
Survivors include four sons, J. E. Fitzgerald, Klamath, CA; Jimmy Fitzgerald, Stonewall; Sidney Fitzgerald, Peoria, Arizona; and Danny Fitzgerald, Stonewall; a daughter, Rose Iverson, Bathell, Washington; a brother, Solon Sanders, Brandon, MS; three sisters, Ola Killian, Enterprise; Georgia Tatum, Brandon, MS; and Farris Rowell, Virginia and five grandchildren.
Lillie Edmiston Bruner

Lillie Edmiston Bruner, a well-known singer around the Gulf Coast region, died August 2, 1994, in a Chicago hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Bruner was 78.
A native of Quitman, and former longtime resident of Mobile, she had lived in Northbrook since 1992.
Her great love of music led to her singing career. She was first heard on the radio in Meridian, Miss. She went on to have her own radio show in Pensacola, and became a well-known singer at the Gulas Plantation Room and Key Club in Mobile.
Mrs. Bruner is survived by her son, Robert Bruner of Wilmette, Ill., her sister, Ruth Herbert and two grandchildren.
No formal services were held.
Internment took place in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
