The Rev. Charles D. Whitton, 68, former superintendent of the Bridgeton District of the Methodist Church, died yesterday at his home, 322 North Thirty-sixth street, following a long illness.
   A native of Bristol, the Rev. Mr. Whitton was an active minister for more than 40 years, until his retirement two years ago. He had been president of the West Jersey Grove Camp Meetings Association for 22 years. He had been minister in Methodist churches in Haddon Heights, Wstmont, Atlantic City and Heightstown.
   Surviving are his widow, Emma; a brother, James A. of Newfield, and two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Madara, of Woodstown and Mrs. Rebecca Geelan, of Riverton.
   Prominent church leaders will attend the funeral service Monday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Methodist Church, thirty-ninth street and Westfield avenue. Friends may attend viewing Sunday at a funeral home, 3523 Westfield avenue.
