Vera Mae Madara (1930-2013)

Vera Mae Madara was born on 22 January 1930 in Harrisonville, Gloucester, New Jersey. She died on 30 June 2013 in Woodstown, Salem, New Jersey. She is buried in Woodstown Friends Burial Ground in Woodstown, Salem, New Jersey.

Vera Madra Pettit, wife of Elmer S. Pettit, died on June 30, 2013 at the age of 83. Vera is pre-deceased by parents Alfred (Buddy) and Mildred Madara. She grew up in Harrisonville, NJ, graduated from Woodstown High School and Goldey Beacom College. In addition to her husband, Vera is survived by a sister, Lou Henderson; three children with spouses, Debbie and Mike Driscoll, Gwen Pettit and Lee Czajkowski, Phil and Cheri Pettit; eight grandchildren and spouses, two great grandchildren. Most people who knew Vera remember her contagious smile and positive, can-do attitude. Once-in-a-lifetime trips include a cross-country trip on a motorcycle with Elmer, and a trip to New Zealand to see how people farm in another part of the world. She was honored in 1985 with an Outstanding Farm Woman Award from the New Jersey Farm Credit Association. In addition to her responsibilities to Clovervale Dairy Farms, Vera was active in the Woodstown Friends Meeting, an avid volunteer at the Friends Home (now Friends Village) and served on the Board for the Friends Home. Her work there was acknowledged by the Salem County Board of Aging with a 1993 Appreciation of Service Award through the Salem County Board of Freeholders. Memorial contributions can be made in Vera's honor to the Friends Foundation, One Friends Drive, Woodstown, NJ 08098. A memorial service will be held at the Woodstown Friends Meeting, 104 N. Main Street, Woodstown, NJ on July 27, 2013 to allow friends and family to share memories of Vera and celebrate her life. A Meeting for Worship in the traditional Quaker style begins at 10 am with a reception for all in the Friends Annex immediately after the service.
