NEW ALBANY - Services for Martin Moody will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at United Funeral Service Chapel.
Mr. Moody, 81, of Enterprise, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany. He was born in Dell, Ark., in 1923 and graduated from Macedonia High School, where he was a star basketball player.
In 193, he joined the U.S. Navy. He married a Macedonia classmate, Maxine Gammell of Enterprise. They started their married life in Atlantic City, N.J., where Martin served as an aviation ordinance man on the inaugural crew of the aircraft carrier USS Midway. After leaving the Navy, he worked with his father in Maben at Moody Manufacturing Inc., where they designed and built Moody boat trailers. In the 1950s, Mr. Moody and his wife settled in Memphis, with their three children, where they lived for 25 years. During that time, he sold insurance, primarily for Union Life and Mutual of Omaha insurance companies. He later operated a small sawmill in the Macedonia community where he manufactured wooden shipping pallets. From 1979 to 2001, he was owner and president of Moody Inc., a land development firm in Meridian.
Mr. Moody lived an active life that included varied interests from antique cars to SUV's, backhoes to bulldozers, playing basketball to playing checkers and chess, water skiing to downhill skiing and raising kids to raising horses, there was never a project he hesitated to undertake.
Survivors include his children, Mack Eugene Moody and his wife, Eleanor, of Martin, Tenn., Myra Nell Forbus and her husband, Gary Lee, of Dallas and Barbara Ann Talley and her husband, Lee Daniel, of Park City, Utah; grandsons, Jacob Daniel Talley of San Diego, David Austin Talley of Park City, Mark Alan Moody of Martin, Tenn., and Jared Asher Forbus of Dallas; sisters, Mary Nowlin of Memphis and Virginia Reynolds of Lauderdale; and 14 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Maxine Gammell Moody; his father, Marvin Austin Moody and his mother, Lois Gilliam Gray.
Memorials may be made to the Alan Moody Fund, c/o Union Planters Bank, P.O. Box 320, Martin, TN 38237.
Pallbearers will be Jake Talley, Dave Talley, Jared Forbus, Lee Talley, Gary Forbus, Jack Maxey, Jay Maxey and James Earl Crain.

Mrs. Davis, 89, of Newton, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at Rush Foundation Hospital. She was a member of Newton Protestant Methodist Church. She was the first resident to enter congregate housing in Newton and has lived there for 24 years.
Survivors include her sons, Ronal Davis and his wife, Delora, of Newton, Larry J. Davis and his wife, Sonda, of Newton; grandchildren, Steven Davis of Newton, Tina Jordan of Taylorsville and Stacey Davis of Ridgeland; great-grandchildren, Andrew Holder and Kelby Jordan, both of Taylorsville, Albany Davis and Joshua Davis, both of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence V. Davis; her parents, Charles and Fronnie Pinkham Cleveland; and a grandchild, Katherine Davis.

Mr. Guynes, 82, of Brandon, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at Rankin Medical Center in Brandon. He was a graduate of Central High School in Jackson and lettered in baseball, basketball and football. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in World War II. He was a graduate of Mississippi College in Clinton where he was a member of the 50-year M Club. He also graduated from the University of Houston in Texas. Before his retirement he was the director of physical therapy at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ernestine Covington Guynes; daughters, Fran Evans of Flowood, Becky Lewis Farley and her husband, Frank, of Meridian; a son, Jerry Guyness and his wife, Tressa, of Ridgeland; grandchildren, Nan King Tucker of Little Rock, Ark., Jason King of Flowood, Brooke Evans Pullen of Destin, Fla., Daniel Lewis and Jenni Lewis of Meridian; and three great-grandchildren.

He was a member of Druid Hills United Methodist Church and the Friends Together Sunday School Class. He was a 58-year Master Mason in good standings in the Grande Lodge of F.&A.M. No. 419 and a member of the Wahabi Shriners A.A.O.N.M.S. of Jackson.

SEBASTOPOL - Services for James Albert John will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at John Memorial Church in Carthage with the Rev. Charles Baptist officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Milling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. John, 44, of Carthage, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in Raleigh.
Survivors include his sisters, Annie Johnson of Bossier City, La., Betty Aranda and Jennifer Sockey, both of Midland, Texas, Etta John of Carthage and Georgia John of Choctaw; one uncle and two aunts.
He was preced in death by his father, Smith John; his mother, Cecilia Wilson John and brothers, Elliott Wilson, Harry Smith John, Larry Wayne John and Patrick John.

Mr. Green, 64, of Shubuta, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at Wayne County General Hospital in Waynesboro.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Green of Shubuta; sons, Dan Green and his wife, Becky, of Northport, Ala.; a brother, Albert Green Sr. of Shubuta; a sister, Jane Donald of Meridian; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. -8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Services for Thomas V. "Tom" Melton Sr. were held Friday at 10 a.m. at Druid Hills United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Meadows officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. James F. Webb Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Melton, 91, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Durant, a longtime resident of Pascagoula and moved to Meridian in 1987. He was a member of Druid Hills United Methodist Church and the Friends Together Sunday School Class. He was a 58-year Master Mason in good standings in the Grande Lodge of F.&A.M. No. 419 and a member of the Wahabi Shriners A.A.O.N.M.S. of Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Melton of Meridian; a son, Tom Melton and his wife, Pam, of Greenville; a daughter, Betty Melton; grandchildren, T.J. Melton and Danielle Melton, both of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Louie Mae Giles of Monticello; a special friend, Becky Luke of Meridian; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Hubert Langford, Jimmy Myers, Earl Miller, James Bond, Miles Herrington, and John Gressett.

PHILADELPHIA - Services for Louis Milford Petty will be held today at 2 p.m. at Philadelphia Church of God with the Rev. Oliver A. Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery in Philadelphia. McClain-Hays Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Petty, 79, of Philadelphia, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in his home. He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Petty of Philadelphia; daughters, Diana Sue Flemmons of Mattawan, Mich., and Shirley Bozeman of Philadelphia; sons, Danny Petty, Louis Patrick Petty, Raymond Scott Petty and Regie Allen Petty, all of Philadelphia, and Terry Petty of Columbus; 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Ruth Petty of Texas; brothers, Floyd Petty of Vienna, Ill. and Louis T. Petty of Carbondale, Ill.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Edith Darlene Beckham; and a son, Jackie Eugene Petty.

Mrs. Simmons, 69, of Meridian, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, in her home.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary L. Simmons of Detroit, Saundra Fay Bender of Columbus, Ohio and Michelle Denise Simmons of Meridian; sons, Jimmy Ray Hopkins and Tony T. Stevenson, both of Columbus, Ohio, and John Allen Hopkins of Meridian; sisters, Barbara Wilson of San Bernadino, Cali., and Mary Gowdy of Meridian; brothers, Willie Gowdy and Eddie Earl Gowdy, both of San Bernadino; 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son.

Mrs. Brabham, 79, of Meridian, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at Riley Hospital.
Survivors include her son, David Brabham of Niceville, Fla.; a daughter, Marsha Howard of Philadlephia; sisters, Sara Shirley of Cyril, Mary Frances Davis of Mobile, Ala., and Eugenia Ford of Pratville; a brother, C.L. Tims of Newbern; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Julian Tims.
