Dr. Fred Fathree Johnston Jr.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on September 8, 1992, at the Church of The Incarnation in Dallas, TX, where Dr. Fred Fatheree Johnston, Jr., and his family have been active members for many years.
   Graveside services for Dr. Johnston were held at Enterprise Cemetery in Clarke County with Rev. Henry Hudson and Rev. David McCubbin officiating. Webb Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
   Dr. Johnston, age 59, of Dallas, passed away on September 4, 1992, in Dallas. Born July 9, 1933, in Enteprise, he was a graduate of the University of Alabama and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. Johnston and his wife, Janet, moved to Dallas in 1957. He served his medical internship and residency at Parkland Hospital where he was chief resident of internal medicine in 1963 and 1964. Specializing in pulmonary diseases, Johnston practiced throughout the Dallas area, serving as director of the pulmonary section of the cardiopulmonary laboratory at St. Paul Hospital from 1966 to 1968, medical director of the respiratory therapy department at Methodist Hospital of Dallas from 1969 to 1972, and the director of the pulmonary medicine department at Medical City Hospital from 1974 through 1983.
   In addition, Dr. Johnston had hospital appointments at Baylor Medical Center at Garland as well as the Garland Community Hospital. He had a private practice at Medical City Hospital until February, 1992. He was also active in a number of civic and professional organizations, serving as a delegate to the Texas Medical Association and on the Board of Directors of the Dallas County Medical Society, where he served as vice president in 1987 and was chairman for the Constitution and Bylaws Committee from 1988 through 1992.
   Survivors include his wife, Janet White Johnston of Dallas; a daughter, Laura Johnston of Dallas; two sons, Clayton Johnston and Lee Johnston, both of Dallas; his mother, Jessie Lee Johnston, Enterprise and a sister, Sarah Johnston, Enterprise.
   Dr. Johnston was preceded in death by his father, Fred Fatheree Johnston, Sr., Chevrolet dealer in Enterprise for fifty-one years.
   The family has requested memorials be made to St. Phillips Episcopal School, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Dallas, TX, 75215.


Katie R. McKenzie

Funeral services for Katie R. McKenzie were held September 28, 1992, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with burial in the James Chapel Cemetery in Quitman. Rev. Advial McKenzie officiated.
   Mrs. McKenzie, age 70, of Quitman, passed away on September 24, 1992, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
   She is survived by ten sons, Nathaniel Davis, Abraham McKenzie, Willie L. McKenzie, Washington McKenzie, Jr., Sylvester McKenzie, Advial McKenzie, Anthony McKenzie, and Noah D. Sterling, all of Quitman; Calvin McKenzie of Deepwater VA; Leavester McKenzie of Laurel; eight daughters, Annis A. Collins, Ella L. Young, and Barbara Adams, of Detroit; Annie M. Holmes of Mt. Dora, FL; Janet Baldwin of Hattiesburg; Pearline Price of Atlanta and Lender Jones and Carolyn Turner, both of Quitman; a brother, Sam Jasper, Jr., and seven sisters, Mabel Steel of Philadelphia, Desiree Carter of Pamona, CA; Ella Ree Davis, Pittsburg, CA; Mollie B. Wilcox of Erie, PA; Sarah Hamilton of Jefferson, LA; Adelene George of Mobile; and Carolyn Lewis of Joilet, IL.
   Berry and Gardner Funeral Home in Quitman was in charge of arrangements.
