Billie Ray "Hoot" Gipson, age 63, of Ely died Thursday, April 21, 1994, at William Bree Ririe Hospital.
Mr. Gipson was born July 12, 1930, in Crandall, MS, to Seth and Lola Lafferty Gipson.
He had lived in this area since moving from Wyoming in March, 1954. He was a journeyman lineman for Mt. Wheeler Power, Inc., retiring in 1992 with twenty-one years experience.
Mr. Gipson was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He held memberships in the BPO Elks Lodge No. 1469 of Ely and the Ely Riding Club.
His hobbies included horseback riding and gardening.
Mr. Gipson is survived by his wife, Dee Gipson of Ely; his mother, Lola Fleming of Quitman; two stepsons, Walter and his wife Salle Ellis and Dennis and his wife, Barbara Ellis, all of Houston; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Lamar Gipson, Quitman; four sisters, Patricia Conner, Quitman; (bad copy of paper but next name looks like "Martha Helmick") and Wanda Nell Franks, both of Butler, AL; and Glenda Ruth Dearman of Lockhart, TX; besides numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held April 27, 1994, at Ely Riding Club. Rev. John Babb officiated.
The family suggests donations to Sacred Heart School, P.O. Box 26, Ely, NV 89301.
Louis J. Mena

Services for Louis J. Mena will be held Wednesday, May 11, 1994, at 2:00 p.m. at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Jasper County. Rev. Earsell Boone will oficiate.
Mr. Mena, age 81, of Quitman, died May 8, 1994, at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Josephine P. Mena, Quitman; two sons, Brad Mena, Collins; and Steven Purvis, Quitman; three sisters, Mrs. Josie Chi, Phoenix City, AL; Mrs. Vivian Brand, Lafayette, AL; and Mrs. Ina Faye Dolan, Stonewall; and four grandchildren.
Nettie T. Thomas

Services for Nettie T. Thomas were held May 1, 1994, at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Rev. Harold McKinnes officiated.
Mrs. Thomas, age 96, of Quitman, died at her residence.
She was born in Alabama and was self-employed.
Survivors include one daughter, Ramona Fleming, Quitman; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
