Intelligencer Journal, 25 August 2008F. Melvin Hess, 70, of Lancaster, entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, August 24, 2008 after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Stella L. Stitt Hess, with whom he would have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary on November 8, 2008.Born in Conestoga Township on February 16, 1938, he was the son of the late Franklin B. and Helen Groff Hess. He worked for K&D Factory Service for over 50 years as a service manager, retiring in April 2008. A member of Kinderhook Evangelical Congregational Church, he served on the church board for over 40 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Penn State football games, and traveling.Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Brian F., married to Leigh Hess, Elizabethtown and two daughters: Barbara A. Brubaker, Lancaster and Christine L., married to Michael Wesselhoff, Baltimore, MD. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Gregory, Nicole, Brittany, Elizabeth, Lauren, Erin and Sophie. A great-grandson, Joel, is expected in November. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hess, and three sisters: Catherine Frimd, Susan Aument and Evelyn Kauffman.The funeral serivce will be held at Kinderhook Evangelical Congregational Church, 560 Kinderhook Road, Columbia, Pa 17512 on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Larry K. Seiger and Pastor Kenneth M. Weaver officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Kraft-Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Wednesday from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., and also at the church on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in Melvin's memory to: Kinderhook Evangelical Congregational Church.
