Jacob Sterneman Groff (1868-1948)

Jacob Sterneman Groff was born on 4 October 1868 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He died on 11 December 1948 in Pequea, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He married Catherine Perkins Harlan on 20 May 1897 in Wilmington, New Castle, Delaware.

Jacob S. Groff, eighty, Pequea Twp., Lancaster R6, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday at his home. He had been in ill health for about five years. He was born in Pequea Twp., and had lived his entire life-time in that township, except for a 15-year period when he resided in Wilmington, Del. He was a farmer, having retired five years ago.
He was a son of the late Adam R. and Elizabeth Sterneman Groff and the husband of Mrs. Catherine Harlan Groff. The Groffs celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 20, 1946.
He had been a member of Boehm's Methodist Church for 35 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by two children: Helen Catherine, wife of Frank B. Hess, Conestoga R1, and J. Howard, Wayne. There also survive seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three step-brothers and sister; Harry, Lititz; Matilda, wife of David Keeports, Millersville R1; and Charles, Willow Street R1. He was the last of his immediate family.
