Intelligencer Journal, 23 April 1953Mrs. Catherine P. Harlan Groff, seventy-six, widow of Jacob S. Groff, died yesterday at 3:55 a.m. at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Hess, Conestoga R1, after an illness of two years.She and her late husband celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary May 20, 1948. Mr. Groff died in December of that year.She was born in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late John P. and Eliza Hemple Harlan, and was a member of Boehm's Methodist Church. She resided with her daughter for the past four years, and had been a resident of Pequea Twp. for 45 years, moving here from Wilmington, Del.Surviving are two children, Helen C., wife of Frank Hess, Conestoga R1; and J. Howard Groff, Wayne; also these sisters and brothers; Mrs. Lena Jefferis, Bella, W. Va.; Bessie, wife of Luther Thompson, Wilmington, Del.; William Harlan, Tampa, Fla.; Mrs. Emma Chambers and George Harlan, both of Wilmington; and Mrs. Eva J. Burlin, Tampa, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
