James Everett Nutt, 23, of Morganton, NC was called home to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 30, 2010. Born in Scotland Co., NC on September 12, 1986, he was the son of James Alfred Nutt and Robin Yvonne Stubbs Nutt of Morganton. James was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church where he was active with and well loved by his youth group.
     He graduated from Freedom High School in 2004 and joined the U.S. Army the following November. He did a tour of duty in Korea and a tour of duty in Iraq, serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. James was currently attending Western Piedmont Community College and working at Leviton Southern Devices. He was a great lover of the outdoors and was devoted to his family. James befriended everyone and never knew a stranger.
     In addition to his parents, James is survived by his brother, Brandon J. Culpepper and wife, Marie S., of Smiths Station, AL; sisters, Farrah E. Baker and husband, Ben, of Seale, AL and Brittany R. Nutt of the home; a paternal grandmother, Julia E. Nutt of Quitman, MS; a nephew, Jeremiah B. Baker; a niece, Elise S. Culpepper; and a huge extended family.
     James was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Everett L. Stubbs and Rosa Lee Stubbs; his paternal grandfather, James E. Nutt; a niece, Kailey E. Sommerset; and a cousin, Chris L. Gallino.
     A celebration of James' life will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Burkemont Baptist Church with Rev. Eddy Bunton and Mr. Andrew J. Whisenant officiating. Military rites will follow the service. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:30 until 6:45 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Burkemont Baptist Church Student Ministry, 4668 Burkemont Road, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
