 Another victim of Basic Collision Dies, Bringing Total To Three - Traffic Mishaps and Controversies Cause Other Fatalities
     Nine Persons Suffer Injuries
     With another victim of the Basic truck - van collision Saturday night dying in a Meridian hospital Sunday morning, making a total of three who lost their lives in the accident, Mississippi's weekend toll of violent deaths mounted to eight, while nine are suffering from injuries. The state victims are: A collision Sunday south of Meridian, near Basic, took the lives of T. R. Sikes, 67, Dennis Taylor, 21, and T. J. Covington, 45, all of Quitman and injured Miss Mary Lou Sikes and Miss Edith Covington of Quitman.
     TOLL GOES TO THREE
     The death toll in the collision on a bridge of a New Orleans van and a Clarke County truck three miles south of Basic late Saturday night, mounted to three when T. Judd Covington of Quitman died in a hospital early Sunday morning. Tom R. Sykes, 67, and Dennis Taylor, 21, also of Quitman, were killed instantly. Misses Mary Lou Sykes, 14, and Edith Covington, 16, Quitman residents, slightly hurt, were treated at a Meridian hospital and returned home Sunday morning. H. A. Covington and wife of Bill Sykes, Quitmanites, the latter grandson of one the death victims driving the truck, all riding in the cab of the machine, escaped injury...
