Mary Elizabeth Chandler Harkey, 82, of Newton, passed away on June 8, 2017 at Bedford Care Center in Newton.
Visitation was held from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, and from 10 a.m. until 10:45 p.m. on Monday, June 12, at the funeral home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Monday, June 12, at the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Harrison officiating. Music was provided by Rev. Chris Harrison, soloist, and Mrs. Joyce Everett, pianist. Interment followed in the Harperville Memorial Park.
Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Forest was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Elizabeth Chandler Harkey was born in Neshoba County on July 9, 1934.
Crocheting, knitting, and reading were her favorite past times. She also was an accomplished artist, as she thoroughly enjoyed coloring, particularly detailed coloring books.
She enjoyed arranging flowers as she was a former employee of The Flower Shop, owned by Mrs. Sue Graham.
Loving her family and cooking for others are two traits that she will be remembered for.
As quoted by her son, Miller, "she was a devoted housewife." She was a member of the Ephesus Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert D. Harkey; two children, Loyce Harkey Maze; and infant, Albert Mitchell Harkey; her parents, R.B. and Annie Jewel Williamson Chandler; and two sisters; Arbela Parker and Osieree Taylor.
Survivors include two sons, Miller (Michelle) Harkey of New Braunefels, Texas and Mike (Doris) Clark of Chunky; one grandchild, Jeremy Harkey; one great-grandchild, Hanna Harkey; one step-grand-daughter, Brittany Smith; one step-grandson, Austin Smith; two sisters, Desieree May and Faye Lanthrip, both of Forest; and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were Wilson Bell, Tanner Bell, Tucker Bell, John L. Tyree, John Carl Riser, and David Hankins.
Memorial donations may be made to Bedford Care Center, 1009 South Main St., Newton, MS 39345.
