LNP Always Lancaster, 14 November 2018J. Lester Hess, 72, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday morning, November 11, 2018 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. On December 28, 1974, he married his wife, Nancy L. (Landis) Hess. They would have celebrated forty-four years of marriage this December.Lester has two brothers: Kenneth B. Hess, married to Linda, and Harold W. Hess, married to Eileen. He had four nephews and one niece. David C. Hess, married to Michelle, Michael F. Landis, Daniel E. Landis, married to Trish, and Diana L. Hess. He also had a total of ten great-nephews and nieces as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many good friends that he cared deeply about.Born June 8, 1946, in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Robert "Bob" G. Hess and the late Norma E. (Bechtold) Hess, of Conestoga. Lester was a member of Central Manor Church, Washington Boro, which has been his home church since 1989.Lester graduated in 1964 from Penn Manor High School. After graduation, he immediately started working for R. R. Donnelley Printing Co., Steel Way Plant and retiring in 2009 after forty-five plus years of service.Over the years, Lester was an avid fan of both NASCAR and dirt track racing. But more recently enjoyed going with and helping his nephew, David race at Maple Grove Speedway. He loved working on his antique cars and going to car shows. He also enjoyed working on lawn mowers and doing small engine repairs which was a past time that he ounce shared with his Dad. Lester also enjoyed two nights a week of league bowling.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from Central Manor Church, 387 Penn Street, Washington Boro, PA 17582 on Friday morning November 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a viewing held at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home, 320 Blue Rock Road, Route 999, Millersville, PA 17551 on Thursday evening between 6:00-8:00 p.m. and also at Central Manor Church on Friday morning between 10:00-11:00 a.m. Interment will be held in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery, Millersville, PA.
